What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a neurological condition of the brain where the main symptom is a seizure. Two or more unprovoked seizures is considered epilepsy.

What is a seizure?

A seizure is a brief, abnormal, excessive or robust discharge of electrical activity in the brain that alters movement, sensation, behaviors and awareness.

What is an Epileptologist?

An Epileptologist is a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy. Epileptologists generally hold board certification in Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Pediatric

Neurology and have completed additional training in the care of epilepsy and seizures.


What does a Comprehensive Epilepsy Center Provide?

Comprehensive Epilepsy Centers provide a specialized team approach to the diagnosis and

treatment of epilepsy. Typically including epileptologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, nurse specialists, EEG technologists, social workers, and others with training and experience in epilepsy care.

Why have an EEG?

An EEG, or electroencephalogram, is

a test that records the electrical signals of the brain. EEGs are done to diagnose and monitor seizure disorders.

Who needs Seizure and First Aid Training?

Parents and family members of people with epilepsy; staff members of schools, childcare

facilities, after school programs, churches, youth sports, and employers all need Seizure and First Aid Training.
